Mercury's Balm

Holiday Mathis on

As much as we despise the idea of having to reject someone, we cannot overlook the fact that rejection is among life's greatest gifts. It inspires us to develop further, try harder and turn ourselves into forces to be reckoned with. Even through the stressed angle to Mars, Mercury offers a balm for the pain -- a rich opportunity inside the package labeled "rejection."

ARIES (March 21-April 19). It seems those who love more should get more love. However, it's the ones who demonstrate that love who will receive the most response. Seize the opportunity to translate your love into action.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You don't always need a goal, but today it will help. You've already had enough of being blown around by the universe's whims or soldiering on for someone else's aim. It will feel good to take charge. Name your target.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You have an arsenal of sensory delights, though it is not as ample and varied as it could be. Try new things. Experiment and add to your collection so you will have more to draw from when you need a bit of comfort.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Things are the way they are because someone thought they should be. You're the someone who matters in today's scene. You have a strong vision for it, and you're ready to make things happen, so don't hold back.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). More love usually means more commitment. More money means more responsibility. More attention means more expectation. But no, today's "more" is an anomaly. It comes without extra or hidden cost. It makes up for what was already owed to you.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). It will pay to study our commonalities and learn systems with nearly universal appeal. Because even though people are often essentially different, there are ways of communicating and interacting that will be widely effective.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You're at once the poet and the poem. This experience feels unreal, as though you're living in a metaphor or a song, as though an artist went back over the day with a sponge to blur the lines of reality.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You'll either give your best or not at all. When you're not sure, take a step back and ask yourself if there's something about the task at hand, or the people involved, that is mismatched with your gut instinct about what you should be doing now.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You're feeling the boomerang effect in full force today when it comes to your social urges. What you're eager to say to someone else is probably what you need to hear yourself.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Maybe there will always be obstacles to love, and if this is the case, count yourself lucky because it's in scaling these obstacles that you prove your heart, demonstrate your devotion and let people know that they are worth the work.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Socializing is on the menu. And though you like a party as much as the next reveler, truth be told, one of your favorite party moments will be waving goodbye and stepping out into a non-celebratory peace.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). People connect with you for who you truly are. It's less about your approach, what you say and how you deliver it and more about your general intentions and the direction you're heading with them.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Oct. 5). In this year of empowering perspective, it's all in how you see things and turn them to work in your favor. The very thing that once held you back will now be the jewel in your crown that lends you a powerful advantage. More highlights: You'll join a winning team, be a key player in a lucrative production and be entrusted with a treasure, only to prove worthy of having much more of it. Scorpio and Cancer adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 6, 2, 19, 45 and 13.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Though Kate Winslet wins hearts in noble roles, she absolutely steals them when she plays fascinating villains such as in "The Regime" or the upcoming "Fake!" With her natal sun, moon, Mercury and Pluto all in the sign of aesthetics, balance and relationships, Winslet is driven to understand the relationship needs and goals of a character, creating great art through the vulnerable humanity that exists even the most reprehensible characters.
