Health and Beauty Tip -- Witch Hazel
If you suffer from blemishes on a regular basis and brand-name astringents haven't worked, use a bit of witch hazel twice a day. Witch hazel is an inexpensive and natural treatment for oily skin.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Vitamins for Smoother Skin
Vitamin E helps your skin stay soft and smooth. Be sure to get your recommended daily allowance (about 10 mg), either by adjusting your diet or taking a supplement.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Calming Blemishes
To take the red out of pimples and blemishes quickly, saturate a cotton ball with anti-redness eye drops and apply gently. This may not be a permanent fix, but it lessens the redness considerably when you have places to be!
Health and Beauty Tip -- Salt Bath
When you have a chance to take a long bath, add some sea salt to the water. It's inexpensive, helps remove impurities from your skin, and (best of all) is very relaxing.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Unclogging Pores
After you shower, run some hot water into the sink and lean over it with a towel over your head, so that your face is nearly touching the water. This will open and unclog pores, which helps to prevent blemishes.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Chamomile Rinse
For softer, shinier hair, soak two bags of chamomile tea in two cups of water, and use this as a final rinse when you wash your hair. This also gives your hair a much nicer scent than most shampoos.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Extra Shine
After washing your hair, rinse with cold water for 30 seconds. This is a great, simple way to get some extra shine!
Health and Beauty Tip -- Natural Highlights
Run a bit of lemon juice through your hair, then sit in the sun for 15-20 minutes, for natural, subtle highlights. Be sure to condition afterwards so the lemon doesn't irritate your scalp.
Health and Beauty Tip -- A Tip Before Swimming
Before you hit those indoor heated pools, wet your hair with regular tap water. Your hair will soak this up first instead of the chlorinated water, prevening it from getting as damaged.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Static-Free Hair
Problems with static when you brush your hair? Take a tiny bit of lotion and run it through your hair ... but not at the roots. This will make it much more manageable and keep the static away.
Health and Beauty Tip -- High Arcs
If the arc of your eyebrows isn't as high as you'd like, try putting some white or light-colored eyeshadow just underneath, on the browbone. This will make your eyes stand out, and give the illusion of a higher arc.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Eyebrow Gel
Instead of using gel or mascara on your eyelashes, try a little petroleum jelly. This won't get clumpy as the day goes on.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Tinted Moisturizer
Mix a little of your favorite face powder with your favorite moisturizer. It will give your skin just a touch of color, and is far less expensive than commercial tinted moisturizers. If you want SPF protection, mix some powder with sunscreen.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Avoid Chapped Lips
Put an old toothbrush to good use. Before you go to bed, rub your lips with a toothbrush to slough off dead skin. It's best to do this before bed -- no more waking up with dry, chapped lips!
Health and Beauty Tip -- Ice Blue Eyeshadow
There are very few colors that work on anyone; ice blue is one of them. This complements nearly any eye and skin color without exception, so don't be afraid to try it! Just make sure you don't overdo it -- some people look better with a little, some with more.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Ease Pain When Plucking
Many people say to put ice on your eyebrows before plucking ... but this actually tightens pores and makes plucking more painful. Do the opposite and put a warm washcloth on your forehead first to open pores. Use ice afterwards to soothe any pain.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Plucking and Shaping Eyebrows
Make sure not to lose the curve of your eyebrows when plucking. A good way to do this is to pluck from underneath on the outer arch, and from above on the inner arch.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Quick Face Powder Fix
In a pinch, you can use corn starch as face powder. Don't use too much, though -- it can tend to make you look pale.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Don't Leave Makeup On
After a long day, you may not want to go to the trouble of removing all your makeup. If you're consistently leaving it on at bedtime, though, you'll be more prone to breakouts and clogged pores. If you simply don't have time, keep some cleansing wipes by your bed. A quick clean is better than none at all.
Health and Beauty Tip -- Make the Most of Hair Products
You don't need to use two different kinds of hair product to get the style you want. Use the same hair cream on wet hair (to tame frizz) as you do on dry hair (to hold flyaways). If you prefer gel, apply to damp hair for hold, then again to dry hair for shine.
