The Kitchn: I might never go back to regular toast after trying Nutella ‘Fairy Bread’

Angie Arias, TheKitchn.com on

Fairy bread is a viral snack known for its simplicity; it’s literally just toasted bread with butter and colorful sprinkles. It’s a whimsical treat that’s perfect for breakfast, snack, dessert, you name it. I figured, why not make my own elevated fairy bread concoction with some Nutella and Fluff to create a rich, gooey, chocolatey twist for fall?

This Fluff-y toast is the perfect sweet snack to enjoy with a warm drink. And the best part? You only need four ingredients: toast, Fluff, Nutella and sprinkles.

How to make Nutella Fairy Bread

Here’s how to make this fun toast in just a few simple steps.

1. Toast your bread. Start by toasting your favorite slice of bread.

2. Spread the Nutella magic. Once the toast is ready, generously spread Nutella on one half of the toast.

3. Smear on the Fluff. Follow with a layer of fluffy marshmallow spread (Fluff) on the other half of the toast. (This should be way easier than spreading both the Nutella and Fluff on each side of the bread like you see in the video.)

4. Slice it up and sprinkle some fun. Cut the toast in half (are you a rectangle or a triangle fan?) and then pull apart for some oozy, photo-worthy action. Dip the edges of your toast into colorful sprinkles to give your treat a festive and cozy look! I made these for Halloween, but you can use sprinkles for any holiday.

My honest review

Rich Nutella, gooey Fluff, and the perfect pop of sprinkles? I mean, come on!

My favorite part is the combination of creamy Nutella with the light, fluffy texture of the marshmallow spread. While traditional fairy toast typically just uses butter and sprinkles, I added Nutella and Fluff to give it a richer, more decadent flavor that feels like a true treat for the season, and it totally delivered.

I feel like this quick recipe will be your new fall favorite. Plus, it’s super fun to make with friends! I recommend setting up a DIY toast bar with Nutella, Fluff, and different varieties of sprinkles. Everyone can spread their own Nutella and Fluff and get creative with the toppings.

Tips for making Nutella Fairy Bread

1. Use a 1-1 ratio of Nutella to Fluff. This way the richness of the Nutella and the lightness of the Fluff can complement each other without one overpowering the other. I got a little carried away with the amount of Fluff and Nutella I added when I first tried this recipe — they started oozing out of the sides once I cut into it.

2. Toast your bread till it’s golden-brown. This way the toast is firm enough to hold the Nutella and Fluff without getting soggy.

3. Be extra about the sprinkles! Because sprinkles are the best part. For maximum sprinkles coverage, lightly press the edges of your toast into a plate of sprinkles to ensure that they stick to the Fluff.
